New City Development in Atlanta

Location: 725 Ponce De Leon, Atlanta, GA

GC: Brasfield & Gorrie

Revenue: $450,000.00

Project Dates:  2017-2018

SUMMARY:

Demolition of the infrastructure followed by construction of a new 3-level below grade parking garage as part of construction of a multi-use office and shopping development.

CHALLENGE:

An excavation exceeding 20 feet deep which is at, or in some areas below, the water table elevation was necessary for the new construction.

Groundwater testing showed contamination with volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) and lead. The discharge permit obtained for this project outlined strict effluent limitations and monitoring requirements.

SOLUTION

The deep well dewatering system was able to provide a stable working surface and allowed the work to proceed in a safe and efficient manner.

The treatment methodology applied reduced the contaminants to well below permissible limits. For example: lead was reduced from 1,072 µg/L to <600 µg/L.

GRIFFIN DIFFERENCE

Regular monitoring and preventive maintenance were conducted to ensure optimal system performance. At the end of the project, Griffin removed and disposed of the used media, decommissioned and demobilized the system off the site.
