Block 58 Skyscraper Construction Dewatering

Project Location:  Houston, Texas

Owner: Hines

GC: The Gilbane Building Company

Project Revenue: $100,000.00

Project Start and End Date: 2018 – 2019

SUMMARY: Construction of a 47-story skyscraper located in downtown Houston

The Challenge

The construction of a 47-story skyscraper in downtown Houston required an excavation of significant depth (30+ feet) that was challenged by significant hydrostatic uplift pressure.

The Solution

Griffin provided groundwater management for the construction of the deep foundation. Griffin installed 8 deep wells from 25 ft. below grade to relieve artesian pressure in underlying sand. Griffin completed the system with several mobilizations to fit the clients schedule for needing to access the site.

The Griffin Difference

Griffin provided a solution that minimized impact on construction access to a very tight project site. For this project, Griffin proposed a solution under a minimum plus model, to create an equitable risk share with regard to the dewatering efforts.
